Deletion Life Cycle
If Ultahost or the registrant terminates a domain registration agreement, the following domain
name deletion process applies:
● Immediate Termination & Expiration Handling
○ Upon termination, the domain name enters the standard expiration process as
defined by the applicable registry.
○ In most cases, the domain will not be deleted immediately, but instead follow the
same cycle as an expired domain registration.
● Auto-Renew Grace Period (Renewal at Expiration / RAE)
○ After termination, the domain typically remains in an auto-renew grace period of
0–45 days (depending on the registry).
○ During this time, the registrant (if applicable) may still restore the domain by
paying the standard renewal fee.
○ Ultahost does not make the domain available to third parties during this period.
● Redemption Grace Period
○ If the domain is not renewed during the auto-renew grace period, it enters the
Redemption Grace Period (RGP), usually lasting 30 days.
○ The registrant may still restore the domain during this stage, but a redemption fee
in addition to the renewal fee will apply.
● Pending Delete Status
○ After the Redemption Grace Period, the domain moves into Pending Delete for 5
days.
○ At this point, no renewal or recovery is possible.
● Final Deletion
○ At the end of the Pending Delete stage, the registry permanently deletes the
domain name from the registry database.
○ Once deleted, the domain becomes available for re-registration by the general
public on a first-come, first-served basis.
● Summary Timeline (typical gTLDs):
○ 0–45 days: Auto-Renew Grace Period (renewable at standard fee).
○ 30 days: Redemption Grace Period (renewable with redemption + renewal fee).
○ 5 days: Pending Delete (no renewal possible).
○ ≈80 days total after termination: Permanent deletion from the registry.
